Schools of Kung Fu Sutton - Michael Palin Centre and Action for Stammering Children - 2018 Sponsored Board Break 29th October until 4th November

Action for Stammering Children (ASC) is a UK charity which aims for a society where children and young people who stammer have the same opportunities and quality of life as their peers.

Our goal is to ensure that as many of the 150,000 children and young people across the UK who stammer have access to effective services and support to help them meet the challenges they face.

Based in The Michael Palin Centre for Stammering Children, the charity is a strong supporter, commissioning services that are not funded by the NHS.

This includes specialist assessments and therapies for children and young people that stammer, a designated helpline, appropriate research, and the training of speech and language therapists across the country.

Why did we choose this charity?

Michael Derrig-Adams has been with Schools of Kung Fu since he was 7 years old and now he is nearly 21.

He attended the Michael Palin Centre for Stammering Children for help with his stammer, with his time with at the Michael Palin Centre, they were able to help him with his speech and gain a new found confidence in not letting his stammer hold him back. Michael has created a fantastic powerful and emotional documentary about his stammer ‘My Stammer is Me’ to bring awareness to people who stammer.

This has inspired us to help this small amazing charity who gives a voice back to young people in the U.K.
